PARTICIPATORY TOOLS AT THE SERVICE OF EVALUATION

THE EVALPARTICIPATIVA PODCAST, NEW SEASON.

The EvalParticipativa Podcast is a platform for exchange and collaboration within the Community of Practice and Learning on Participatory Evaluation in Latin America. Each episode seeks to explore and share the knowledge and experiences of key figures in participatory evaluation across the region, where the professional intersects with the personal, and evaluative practice is closely linked to the lived experiences and stories of the interviewees.

With this episode we launch the second season, only in Spanish with automatic English Translation. These are editions supported by artificial intelligence, in this case based on the book “Sowing and Harvesting: A Manual of Participatory Evaluation.” Specifically, through a conversation between two fictional characters, Marco and Eva, Chapter 5 of the book is explored, which focuses on participatory techniques for evaluation. The discussion brings together aspects such as methodological approaches, the role of facilitation, and the challenges of using participatory tools. The advantages of these techniques are analysed, such as collective knowledge-building and strengthening identity, as well as their limitations and risks. Finally, the techniques are categorised by modality and purpose, offering practical considerations for their selection and use, while emphasising that there are no “magic formulas” and that the facilitator’s intuition and participatory vocation are essential.
